Our Calling to the Northeast of Brazil
he nation of Brazil is not only large in size, but also population, currently ranking 5th in the world in both categories. Brazil is a nominally Christian nation, with close to 65% of the people adhering to the Catholic faith and 22% claiming evangelical. Even though evangelical association has grown since the 2010 census, so has nominal christians, mormons and a rapid increase in eastern religions like muslim, etc. Brazil has strong historical roots in syncretism (blending religious practices) with one of the most popular mixes being Catholic, Candomble and spiritism; syncretism is even found in cultural traditions, holidays and language.
Furthering the gap, many seminary graduates choose to stay in Recife the capital or move to other more prosperous and safer regions of the country. Because of this the northeast expanse of Brazil especially in small towns and remote villages remain relatively unreached for the Gospel. Within this region lies the historic city of Caruaru, two hours west of Recife where our base of work is. Our work expands into Boa esperança a small village 30 minutes away from our Base and Serrote dos Bois a remote village 8 hours away. |
The fields in Brazil are ripe for harvest and people are thirsty to not only hear the Gospel saving message of scriptures but also to learn the truth.
