Our Calling to the Northeast of Brazil
he nation of Brazil is not only large in size, but also population, currently ranking 5th in the world in both categories. Brazil is a nominally Christian nation, with close to 65% of the people adhering to the Catholic faith and 22% claiming evangelical. Even though evangelical association has grown since the 2010 census, so has nominal christians, mormons  and a rapid increase in eastern religions like muslim, etc. Brazil has strong historical roots in syncretism (blending religious practices) with one of the most popular mixes being Catholic, Candomble and spiritism; syncretism is even found in cultural traditions, holidays and language.

Furthering the gap, many seminary graduates choose to stay in Recife the capital or move to other more prosperous and safer regions of the country. Because of this the northeast expanse of Brazil especially in small towns and remote villages remain relatively unreached for the Gospel.  Within this region lies the historic city of Caruaru, two hours west of Recife where our base of work is. Our work expands into Boa esperança a small village 30 minutes away from our Base and Serrote dos Bois a remote village 8 hours away.
​The fields in Brazil are ripe for harvest and people are thirsty to not only hear the Gospel saving message of scriptures but also to learn the truth.
"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:14-15)

Purpose of our Website

Purpose of website
The purpose of our website and social media pages is a way to unify the joint mission efforts of our missionaries who are sent through separate nonprofit Christian missionary clearinghouses. Phil & Rita Warkentien are missionaries through GlobalGrace Fellowship and Cade & Marina Amend are missionaries through Central Missionary Clearinghouse.
Along with that to help you keep up with our busy lives and hear about the work that God is doing in the Northeast of Brazil more frequently than the periodical newsletter. Also, a way to glorify God and encourage you by sharing with you all the wonderful things He is accomplishing there through working through us and through your faithful prayers and support. 

The story behind our name
If you have ever received a newsletter from the Warkentiens in the past you already know the answer. "Yours for souls," has been the valediction at the end of our newsletters. Our hope has been that in reading this sign-off you understand the heart of what we are doing, and how in partnering with us you also are participating in the work God set before us. We have answered the call to go to missions for the purpose of souls being saved through the knowledge of the Gospel.. Similarly, we believe that when you answer the call to pray and support missionaries you are also taking part in a necessary piece of accomplishing God's mission.
